CALIFORNIA NUNS SEEK PROTECTION FOR THEIR CANNABIS BUSINESS Two Northern California habit-wearing nuns, the self-proclaimed “Sisters of the Valley,” say their cannabis business is under threat now that the Merced City Council is considering a full ban on all marijuana cultivation in the city. Should the measure pass next week, Sister Kate and Sister Darcy may need to eliminate the small crop of pot plants they have growing in their garage.

Calm Down, East Coast: Cannabis “Shatter” Media Coverage Woefully Overstates Its Dangers – Last week, a flurry of news stories broke on the East Coast warning readers about the highly potent cannabis extract known as shatter. They’re calling it a “dangerous new drug” that has now infiltrated states like New Jersey, and they leave it to police officers and anti-cannabis groups to describe the extract and its dangers.

The bill is modeled after Colorado’s cannabis legislation and would allow anyone over 21 years of age to possess up to one ounce of cannabis on their person, cultivate up to five cannabis plants and store any excess cannabis for personal use.

Alaska groups give free cannabis to the severely ill and veterans – While Alaska’s commercial marijuana market slowly forges ahead, some residents aren’t waiting for retail businesses to surface and are instead providing cannabis to the severely ill and veterans, all free of charge. Alaska Green Angels is one of these groups that has been giving away free cannabis for the past year. It was started as reaction to what the group feels is a medical marijuana system that has failed its patients -- although the state disagrees.
