Marijuana use doubles among US adults

Marijuana use has doubled over the past decade as laws and attitudes about the drug shifted dramatically. New findings reported in JAMA Psychiatry showed marijuana use amount U.S. adults climbed to a 9.5 percent of adults in 2012-2013, a leap up from 4.1 percent in 2001-2002.   [read more...]

Drug laws: Could Iran be the next country to legalise cannabis and opium? – After Uruguay courageously legalised the use of cannabis under a new drug policy, could Iran be the next country to make it legal? From the outside, the image of Iran as retrograde and inherently conservative hardly fits with the reality of a more dynamic domestic political debate within. But drug policy is one of the areas of debate in which the Islamic Republic has produced some interesting, yet paradoxical, policies. 
 
ADHD patients successfully treated with cannabis – In a German study involving 30 patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who had limited success with conventional treatments, all subjects reported 'improved concentration and sleep' and 'reduced impulsivity' following cannabis treatment. 
 
Cannabis banking efforts take another blow – The legal cannabis industry took another financial blow this week after U.S. Federal Reserve announced that chartering a bank specifically for funds from cannabis businesses is "criminal."
 
Marijuana legalization could draw U.S investment bonanza to Canada – Friendlier laws on medical marijuana use in Canada are already drawing American investment and the trend is likely to further ignite if the federal Liberals make good on their promise to allow recreational use of the drug.
