Message from our President

Everyone has a favorite charity, so it seems. Jerry Lewis had the Labor Day Telethon, Danny Thomas founded St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and at NuView we recently dumped ice water on our heads to bring donations and awareness to the ALS foundation.

We tend to get involved in a myriad of local charitable endeavors, but the one dearest to our hearts is the Wheelchair foundation.

Every year we host the Hero Games, a series of obstacles and a 5K run/walk, in order to raise funds to purchase wheelchairs for the 100 million people in the world who need mobility, yet are unable to afford it.

This year we hope to raise enough funds to purchase a container-load of chairs (280) at $150 per chair to be delivered to Central America. Thanks to many of you, these families’ lives will be changed forever, and if you're ever able to join us on a wheelchair distribution trip, you'll immediately understand the depth of gratitude that each recipient conveys.

So set aside Saturday, October 18th,  to participate in the Hero Games at Secret Lake Park in Casselberry, Florida. Whether you run, walk, climb, or just give, you will be blessed in ways you never thought possible. To learn how to get more involved, visit www.TheHeroGames.com.

And, as always, all the best in your investments,

Glen Mather

Planning for Prosperity Returns!

NuView is pleased to host the second annual Planning for Prosperity alternative investment symposium at the Lake Mary Marriott in Lake Mary, Florida, on Friday, October 17th. We surveyed our more than 125 attendees at the 2013 P4P, and the consensus was, "Do it again!" For 2014, we want to keep it just as intimate, so we're capping attendance at 200 - don't wait to get tickets.

We have a great line-up this year - we're giving you a front-row seat to one of the most downloaded podcasts - The Real Estate Guys. The "guys," Robert Helms and Russell Gray, will show you how to make the most of your real estate investments. The Pitbull of hard money lending, Leonard Rosen, returns as does our good friend Jerry Ross to inspire you to apply entrepreneurial values to your investing strategy. You'll also hear from local experts on tapping angel investors, leveraging your IRA, and checkbook control. And, just like last year, we're rounding out the event with a panel of NuView self-directed IRA clients who will share personal success stories on how they have impacted their retirement through a wide variety of strategies.

Investing in Growing Companies

Evan Greenberg is the Founder and Portfolio Manager for the LegendCap Opportunity Fund, which is an approved hedge fund on NuView’s platform that makes investments in emerging growth companies and allocates up to 20 percent of its assets to alternative investments such as private placements. Evan broadcasts a financial radio show in Phoenix and can be contacted at evan@legendcapfunds.com or (516) 662-0303.

Over the past three decades, companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Facebook have emerged, not to mention other powerhouses like Chipotle and Under Armour. They have replaced Chrysler, Woolworth’s, Data General, Digital Equipment, and many others in our dynamic economy. Many of these success stories are examples of why an alternative investment platform for accredited investors is important, as many of these companies were private investments before their IPOs, which came much later in their growth cycles. For example, one of my favorite concepts, Stratasys, a leader in 3D printing, has gone up 100-fold since 2002.

Typically, the primary way to invest in these companies was either through a direct investment or a venture capital fund, which could only be done inside of an IRA through an administrator like NuView. As defined by The Motley Fool, a hedge fund is described as "a pool of investment capital that a manager invests on shareholders' behalf." The crucial difference between a hedge fund and your run-of-the-mill mutual fund is the complete discretion it gives the fund manager to invest where and how he or she chooses. This allows hedge funds to hold any and all investment types, including alternative assets...READ MORE

Success Story Spotlight

This month’s spotlight shines on Carl Jacobson. Carl received his MBA from Columbia University, and spent 15 years as a financial analyst at AIG. Currently, he works as a realtor, and because Carl enjoys helping others with their investments so much he wanted to share some of his secrets for success here:

NuView: How did you hear about NuView?

Carl Jacobson: We were recommended by one of our realtors. I went to a seminar about self-directed IRAs, liked it, and thought, "Why not? Let’s go!" One of the key things is that I truly enjoy self-direction and really appreciate what all NuView does. I left teaching to pursue real estate, and it has really improved my retirement savings!

NV: What made you want to go with NuView?

CJ: They were very close to us, and everyone there has been very helpful. If I have a question, I get an answer right away. If I try to do something not allowed in the world of IRA investing, they will immediately inform me. I’ve really enjoyed working with NuView. You don’t get the service that you receive at NuView from other larger investment firms.

NV: Did you take any introductory courses or any classes to enhance your knowledge in self-directed IRAs?

CJ: I’ve been to seminars that NuView has hosted, and I really enjoy going to them. When NuView has the day training or seminars, I always try to take full advantage of them because they are really informative and point out other possibilities available to me. I want to always find ways to increase my returns.

NV: What is your personal investment philosophy?

CJ: Do your due-diligence and investigation, understand what you’re investing in, and don’t follow the crowd - but do what you feel comfortable in. There have been enough crashes and panics in the investment world, so once you get to your comfort level just go do it and make your investments.

We love sharing stories like Carl's. These narratives are the reason we do what we do here at NuView IRA. If you or someone you know has really made something special with their self-directed IRA, we want to know. Please contact our marketing manager, Lauren Joos, at ljoos@nuviewira.com to be considered for our next Success Story Spotlight.
