Vehicle Update

Does HALO Have a New Car Yet?

As most of you have heard, HALO was robbed a few weeks ago.  One of the vehicles we use to transport the animals was stolen.

Our ability to transport the animals is crucial to our mission of saving their precious lives.  Not only that, but in stealing the truck, the thieves smashed down the dog play yard fence.

The smashed-down fence

Original news story (with video):

Adams Fence repaired the damaged fence for us at no charge out of the kindness of their hearts.  Thank you so much to Adams Fence for helping us get back on our "paws!"

The vehicle's loss was a blow to the speed at which we can continue our lifesaving work.  Without enough vehicles, adoption locations sit empty and animals have to wait to get to their checkups.

Before the truck was stolen, HALO was actually already short by one vehicle and had been applying for grants for another one.

That means that after the robbery, HALO was in need of TWO vehicles.  But thanks to our supporters...

We now have a new vehicle, and one more new one on the way!

Well they're used, but they're new to us and oh so amazing!  Here they are...

Car #1

The first car is a Honda CRV that we are currently in the process of buying, donated collectively by all of you guys who made donations towards the purchase of a new car for the animals, and one donor (SuSu Levy) who gave a big last-minute donation to help us reach the amount we needed!  The photo below is what 2006 CRV's look like.  We will put a photo of the car on Facebook as soon as we get it, so make sure you're a Facebook fan to see it!  www.facebook.com/HALOResqQ  Thank you all for helping us get what we need!

Car #2

The second car is a Suzuki XL-7 donated by an anonymous donor's two HALO doggies.  What a generous and amazing gift!

New Grass Play Yard

Begonia has a lot to smile about.

Not too long ago, Begonia was found wandering the streets of Phoenix. She was brought to the County shelter, but no one came looking for her... she was all alone after three days.  Because she had an ear infection she was in danger of being put down.  The County shelter asked HALO if we would take her into our care, and we found a place for her.  Luckily, there was one open kennel because a dog had just been adopted!

When Begonia arrived at HALO's treatment facility, guess what she saw?

A beautiful new play yard!

"This place looks like fun!" she said to herself and started romping around.

Begoina has no idea how close she came to the end.  But the volunteers watching her play and giving her toys knew.  As sad as the situation is for animals in our community sometimes, they were happy for Begonia because her future is now bright.  And to see her playing happily in a nice yard, chewing on toys, getting some love... no wonder Begonia looks so happy!

HALO has installed a new pet-friendly artificial grass play yard at the treatment facility.  Now the dogs saved from euthanasia have a much cleaner, happier place to play while they are prepared for adoption!

Thank you to U.S. Grass and Greens for donating the installation and labor!

Goings-On

New Grant Funds for the Animals

This month HALO is over the moon!  We are ecstatic that we now have the ability to do two great things for the animals which we couldn't before...

 Emergency Medical Funds

HALO now has the resources to save the lives of 20 animals who suffer from medical issues that are more serious than the normal, routine issues we treat, thanks to a generous grant from the ASPCA! These dogs and cats have problems that require additional vet care and treatment that we couldn't afford before... but now we can!  Three cheers for Notorious D.O.G. (pictured above), the first animal of the 20.  He was in danger of being put to sleep because his knee required luxating patella surgery.  But now, he's happy in his forever home!

Thank you to

Waived-Fee Cat Adoption Specials

Did you notice that last month, HALO offered "Priceless" cats?  HALO is now able to have waived-fee cat adoption specials, saving the lives of up to 640 cats.  This is HALO's first grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, a great group of people who are passionately dedicated to improving the lives of both people and animals in our community.

Thank you to

When is our next cat adoption special?  Its a secret... keep an eye on HALO's goings-on!  If you want to be the first to know about adoption specials, Like HALO's Facebook page.

Happy Tails

"We are so fortunate that Tatsoi and Arugula (now named Boo and Jazzy) found us at HALO on February 8th, 2012.  They arrived at their new home traveling in elegant cardboard containers - and as they ventured out they immediately told us that the quarters would be a few steps up from the cages.

They adjusted to each other and to us immediately and have been playing ever since.  In fact, they play about 20 hours a day. Jazzy is named after Jazmin, the attendant at HALO who was very helpful to us - her middle name is Miss Mischief.

We are so in love with them and they are soooo happy.  Thank you, HALO."

Don't Forget the Big Picture...

About 96,000 animals enter the shelters in Maricopa County each year.  Approximately half of them leave alive.

The other half are euthanized.  These are the animals that HALO focuses on saving.  We take animals in danger of euthanasia at other Valley shelters and give them love, care, and medical treatment, and then find them loving forever homes.

Our resources are limited to pay for their necessary vaccinations, antibiotics, spay/neuter surgeries, etc., so we can only save as many dogs and cats as we can afford.  With support from our fellow animal lovers, we can afford to save more lives.

We are at the big shelters EVERY DAY, rescuing as many animals in danger of euthanasia as we can.

When you support HALO by Adopting, Volunteering, and Donating, you help save animals' lives.
